Viettel Post Inaugurates Vietnam’s First Smart Technology Hub to Revolutionize National Logistics Infrastructure

On January 17, 2024, at the Quang Minh Industrial Park in Hanoi, Viettel Post—a key subsidiary of the military-backed Viettel Group—officially inaugurated and commenced operations at Vietnam’s first and largest smart technology sorting hub. This landmark event marks a pivotal milestone in the corporation’s long-term strategy to construct a robust, highly automated, and intelligent national logistics infrastructure.
The launch of this state-of-the-art facility not only underscores Viettel’s commitment to pioneering technological advancements within Vietnam’s logistics sector but also signals a transformative shift in how goods are processed, tracked, and delivered across the country. By merging cutting-edge automation with advanced data analytics, the military-backed enterprise aims to position Vietnam as an emerging regional and global logistics hub, aligning with broader national economic development goals.

Strategic Vision and National Importance
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Major General Tào Đức Thắng, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group, emphasized the profound significance of the project. He noted that alongside telecommunications and digital infrastructure—two foundational pillars that Viettel has successfully developed to national scale—the establishment of a modernized logistics infrastructure represents the third vital strategic pillar for the corporation.
"If telecommunications infrastructure is considered the lifeblood of information flow within the economy, and digital infrastructure serves as the infrastructure of infrastructure in the digital era, then logistics infrastructure can be likened to the lifeblood of physical flow," General Thắng stated. He highlighted the indispensable role that logistics plays in connecting, supporting, and driving socio-economic development.
This monumental mission has been formally entrusted to Viettel Post, an organization recognized for its pioneering spirit throughout the 35-year history of the Viettel Group. Moving forward, the leadership of the parent corporation has mandated that Viettel Post treat logistics as a core strategic growth driver. The company is expected to lead the industry by mastering and aggressively deploying advanced technologies across all operational stages, ultimately forming a smart logistics infrastructure of national scale with the future capability of expanding internationally.

Cutting-Edge Technology and Operational Capacities
The newly unveiled smart sorting hub at Quang Minh Industrial Park is distinguished by an exceptionally high degree of automation. Moving away from traditional, labor-intensive sorting methods, the facility integrates Autonomous Mobile Robots (AGVs), large-scale cargo sorting systems, and advanced cross-belt sorting mechanisms.
The technical specifications of the hub underline its massive processing power. Equipped with nearly 40 loading and unloading bays and close to 1,200 sorting chutes, the facility boasts a processing capacity of up to 1.4 million parcels per day—representing a 40% increase compared to previous operational standards. This surge in capacity elevates Viettel Post’s total nationwide handling capacity to 4 million parcels per day, effectively meeting approximately 50% of the total e-commerce delivery volume in Vietnam.
Efficiency and precision are among the most notable improvements at the new hub. The error rate of the automated system is virtually zero, drastically reducing misrouted shipments and minimizing customer dissatisfaction. Furthermore, the integration of automation has shortened the overall transit time across the network by 8 to 10 hours while boosting labor productivity by 3.5 times. Thanks to the reduction in manual labor dependency, the facility achieves up to a 60% saving in personnel costs.

Advanced Monitoring and 100% "Made-in-Vietnam" Ecosystem
Operational oversight and quality control at the Quang Minh hub are managed through a centralized Network Operations Center (NOC), which tracks the journey of every single parcel in real-time. The smart monitoring system incorporates Digital Twin technology and AI-powered cameras to continuously assess the operational status of all equipment and cargo handling activities. This setup enables the immediate detection and automated warning of abnormal behaviors or bottlenecks, allowing management to address potential issues before they escalate into operational disruptions.
A particularly striking aspect of the project is the origin of its underlying technology. The entire logistics ecosystem—including warehouse management software, mobile and web applications, parcel tracking solutions, conveyor monitoring systems, and smart locks—was researched, developed, and finalized by a team of 100% Vietnamese engineers and experts within a record timeframe of just over six months. By comparison, similar-scale systems deployed by major global logistics corporations typically require approximately two years of implementation before becoming fully operational.
Expanding Horizons: Beyond Courier Services
During the inauguration event, Viettel Post Chief Executive Officer Hoàng Trung Thành elaborated on the company’s expansive vision for the future. He stressed that Viettel Post is no longer positioning itself merely as a traditional parcel delivery provider. Instead, the company has laid the groundwork and declared its firm determination to successfully conquer adjacent and foundational logistics sectors.

These strategic sectors include supply chain management, logistics parks, smart border gates, cross-border end-to-end logistics infrastructure, and multimodal railway logistics. The overarching objective is to seamlessly connect industrial zones and agricultural production regions with domestic and international transportation hubs, including highways, railways, seaports, airports, and border gate systems.
"Building a smart, national-scale logistics infrastructure is an absolute necessity and a defining mission that Viettel Post has set for itself," Mr. Thành affirmed. He reiterated that to fulfill this monumental responsibility, Viettel Post must continuously apply, develop, and master advanced technologies.
Broader Economic Implications and Future Outlook
The launch of Viettel Post’s smart sorting hub arrives at a crucial juncture for Vietnam’s economy. The Vietnamese government has set ambitious targets for the logistics sector, aiming for it to contribute 5-6% to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2025. To achieve this, reducing logistics costs—which have historically remained high compared to regional peers—is imperative.

By introducing high-capacity automation, cutting labor costs by 60%, and drastically reducing transit times, Viettel Post’s initiative directly addresses structural inefficiencies within the domestic supply chain. The integration of modern technology into the physical flow of goods is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese manufacturing, retail, and e-commerce enterprises on the global stage.
Furthermore, as Vietnam increasingly integrates into the global economy through numerous Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) such as the EVFTA and CPTPP, the demand for sophisticated, reliable, and cross-border logistics infrastructure will only accelerate. Viettel Post’s strategic pivot toward mastering smart logistics infrastructure positions the enterprise not only as a domestic market leader but also as a potential regional powerhouse capable of exporting technological and operational expertise to neighboring markets.
Through substantial capital investment, indigenous technological innovation, and a clear strategic roadmap, Viettel Group and Viettel Post are actively reshaping the landscape of Vietnamese commerce, laying a resilient foundation for the nation’s future economic prosperity.
